The Hungarians, along with other red varieties, use in their wine Egri bikavér, which we know as Bull’s blood. On the left bank of the Danube, it is grown somewhat in Ilok and Erdut, and on the other side of the mighty river is the largest vineyard of that variety in the world. It is a kadarka, a gentle and once trendy Pannonian black variety that is very sensitive to low winter temperatures and gray mold, so it was replaced by more resistant ones such as frankovka and black pine.
